Formula Foods is a 100% New Zealand owned food technology company based in Christchurch. Founded in 1987 by David and Christine Rout, Formula Foods supplies Professional Food Technology Services, Flavours and Colours, Ingredients and Instrumentation to the Food industry.

About Formula Foods

Formula Foods commenced business in 1987 by Dave & Christine Rout. After 18 years in the dairy and ice cream manufacturing sector in New Zealand and overseas, Dave commenced as a consultant to the Food Industry. Over time the development projects and formulation work progressed to ingredient development and supply. Although Dave's background and experience was mainly in the Dairy and Ice Cream field, fundamental food technology principles were applied to the growing food manufacturing client base and with this diversification, staff appointments were made in order to expand the consultancy and flavour ingredient preparation areas.

For many years Dave was solely responsible for the development of New Zealand Natural Ice Cream products.

In the mid 90's Formula Foods become New Zealand's representative for Decagon Devices USA, a world leader in water activity instrumentation. From this the instrumentation division was birthed which has since grown to provide a range of instruments supported by a service facility.

In November 2005 Formula Foods moved into a design built facility to cater for the steady growth in the 3 facets of our business - Professional Food Technology Services, Ingredient preparation and supply, and Instrumentation.

In 2008 we appointed an Auckland based Sales consultant to cover the Auckland region.

In January 2009 we commenced business in Queensland - Graintec Scientific Pty Ltd, supplying instrumentation to the food and grain industry.
